Specify a volume size large enough to hold the desired files. Remember that memory allocated for the RAMdisk will not be available for program execution.
Maximum volume size is determined by the amount of available internal memory in your Mac. In general, you may consider using up to 1/2 the memory of your Mac. If necessary, more may be used, but some operations may fail. Under System 7, you may be limited to 1/2 of memory minus 64K.
Volume sizes of 400K and less will be flat file volumes, greater than 400K will be HFS volumes.
If you have files selected for copying to the RAMdisk, click on the ( Selected: ) button to see what size RAMdisk is needed to hold the files.
Disabling the RAM Cache (in the standard Control Panel) is recommended since it uses significant memory, and is not as effective as a RAMdisk.
Use this control panel at any time to change these settings. The size and name will only take effect the next time you Restart the Mac.
